Pre Course Assignment - Further Explained

Why the pre course assignment?

Many training organization’s claim their learning event is the best. Few training organization’s make any attempt to scientifically and objectively monitor and measure the effectiveness and benefits of their learning solutions.

Learner’s frequently attend learning events where their learning is adversely affected by Learner’s attending the learning event, where their knowledge and skill level is not appropriate for the learning event, where Learners of different knowledge and skill affects delivery by the Instructor, and ultimately the Learner outcome is not achieved, e.g. a low level of learners successfully completing the learning event.

At the Kelmac Group® we introduced pre-test assessments prior to the start of our learning event to enable us to demonstrate in a scientific and quantitative way to achieve learner outcome, to demonstrate the degree the Learner’s learning/development was enhanced following completion of a Kelmac Group® learning event. We do this by monitoring and measuring the Learner’s knowledge and skill level prior to, during and post the learning event. We also use the information obtained to ensure our (1) learning solution is the right solution for the Learner (2) learning solution achieves the optimum learner outcomes and (3) Instructor’s high delivery performance standards are maintained.

In summary, we put into practice what we teach, namely performance improvement.

So what is involved?

On a standard lead auditor course, we have developed 5 mini Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) Tests. Four tests are broken into a pool of 10 questions each and a final fifth test of 40 questions each.

The pass mark on the first 4 MCQ tests is 70% (needing 7 out of 10 correct answers)

The pass mark on the final MCQ test is 60% (needing 24/40 correct answers)

The test topics are based on the discipline in question.

How long will it take you to complete?

The pre course will take on average 8 – 12 hours to complete for a standard lead auditor. For a combined lead auditor it will average 16-20 hours. However  the amount of time will vary depending on a persons knowledge and experience. The time is calculated based on the amount of study and pre-reading required. The tests themselves are short, however knowing the correct answers can only be achieved by reading the materials made available and understanding them.

When must I complete the test by?

The pre course test must be completed in advance of attending to confirm your eligibility to attend the course. In signing up for the course, you are accepting this mandatory element of the training which is to be completed in advance.

The standard deadline for completion is one working week in advance of the course start date.

Can I re-take the tests?

You can retake the tests as many time as necessary. Though we recommend you focus more on spending quality time reviewing and digesting the reference materials made available.

Can I review my tests and understand where I need to study and improve on?

Yes, my using the ‘My Gradebook’ feature you will be able to review your test and understand what you got correct and what you got incorrect. It will not inform you of the correct answers for where you got an answer incorrect. There is also a limit on the number of times you can review your test.

However this feature can be useful in assisting students understand how they performed in a test and what areas they need to focus on to be successful in the test.

Can I print documents from the online reference library?

Due to copyright law, you are not able to print out copies of the International Standards. You will only be able to view these securely online. However the reference folder (as the online library contains more than one folder) you can print.

What happens if I do not complete the test?

If you do not complete the test (s) by the deadline this may mean you will not be permitted to attend the training course and may forfeit the training fee.

If anyone is experiencing difficulties in completing the tests by any communicated deadlines, they must contact us immediately so we can work with you to assist in any way we can. However the final responsibility is with each student wishing to attend to ensure they complete this mandatory part of the training.

Training Methodology

Accelerated learning is the most advanced teaching and learning method available today. It's a total system of enhancing and speeding up both the design and learning process. What makes accelerated learning so effective is that it's based on the way we naturally learn. It does this by actively involving the whole person, using physical activity, creativity, collaboration among learners, variety that appeals to all learning styles, contextual learning with real-world immersion, the creation of a positive physical, emotional, and social environment and other methods designed to get people deeply involved in their own learning.

  • Comprehensive Course Manual
  • Expertise and Wisdom of Tutor (s)
  • Additional Handouts
